Dear Classes of 1968 and 1970:

This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Sidney (Staszko) Kuropchak ('70) on Friday, August 23rd.

Sid is a member of the Class of 1970 and the sister of Joan (Staszko) Greving, Gregory Staszko* ('68) and Chris Staszko.



STOCKTON SPRINGS - Sidney Katherine Kuropchak passed away Aug. 23, 2013, at her home in Stockton Springs. She was born Aug. 9, 1952, in Fargo, N.D., the second child of the late Edward and Lois Staszko.

Sidney graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Kent State University in Ohio with a Master's Degree in Sociology.

Professionally, Sid was a co-founder of the Light Electric Vehicle Association, and had served as Executive Director, Board Member, and President. Her leadership and pleasant management style was responsible for the rapid growth and extensive membership of the LEVA. The LEVA promotes and supports the industry of electric powered two wheelers such as electric bicycles, electric motor scooters, etc. Today the LEVA has more than 250 members in 29 countries.

Sid also acted as the coordinator for eCycleElectric Consulting, a working relationship that lasted more than 15 years. During this time she held key posts at WaveCrest Labs, Ultra Motor USA, and Stone Industrial. Previous to that she was the President of Lauren Manufacturing in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Sid is survived by her husband of 37 years, John Kuropchak. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Greving of Fargo, N.D.; and two brothers, Gregory Staszko of San Jose, Calif., and Chris Staszko of Moorehead, Minn. In addition she is survived by five nieces; two nephews; and scores of friends.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 81 Court St., Belfast. A luncheon will follow the service at the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Way of Eastern Maine, 24 Springer Dr., Bangor, ME 04401; or Waldo County Hospice, care of Waldo County General Hospital, P.O. Box 287, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at
