Mike Hagstrom, new president of St. John Paul II Catholic Schools.
FARGO—Mike Hagstrom has been named the new president of St. John Paul II Catholic Schools and director of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Fargo, Bishop John Folda announced in a news release.
Hagstrom will replace Michael Smith on July 1, the release stated. Smith is leaving to take over a leadership role in a school in El Salvador.
"I am grateful for Bishop Folda's ardent support for Catholic Schools and for Dr. Smith's leadership the past four years," Hagstrom said in the release, "and I am looking forward to enhancing further our Catholic schools' legacy of excellence in a prayerful, collaborative and energetic spirit."
Hagstrom has taught religion at Fargo Shanley High School for 31 years and is a longtime chaplain's assistant and Student Council adviser at the school. He has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in theology from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn.
The JPII Catholic Schools are Sullivan Middle School, Shanley High School, Holy Spirit Elementary and Nativity Elementary in Fargo; and Trinity Elementary in West Fargo.
Schools in the Fargo Diocese are St. Ann's School, Belcourt; St. Joseph School, Devils Lake; Holy Family-St. Mary's Catholic School, Grand Forks; St. Michael's Elementary School, Grand Forks; St. John's Academy, Jamestown; St. Alphonsus' Elementary School, Langdon; Little Flower Elementary, Rugby; St. Catherine's Elementary, Valley City; and St. John's Elementary, Wahpeton.
