Dear Classes of 1966, 1975 and 1980:

This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Robert "Brian" Himmelberger ('66) on Thursday, Aug. 18th.

Brian was a member of the Class of 1966 and the brother of Thomas Himmelberger* ('75), Connie (Himmelberger) Tibbets and Judy (Himmelberger) Kasemir ('80).




Robert Brian Himmelberger was born December 20 1947 in Sioux Falls SD to Robert and Margaret (Fines) Himmelberger. He was the second of four children. He grew up in Fargo Moorhead where he attended Shanley High and was a part of the 1967 undefeated football team. Brian continued his football career at NDSU during which he played for the Nation champion Bison's in 1968 & 1969. He was also a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Brian worked for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1976-1996.In 1979 he married Donna Gohrshorowski. They had a son Shawn Dominique in 1982. Brian and Donna parted ways in 1985 but remained good friends and co-parents. Brian met Michelle Hofstrand in 1996 they were married and remained so until his passing. The twenty-two years together were filled with a lifetime of fun and adventure. They truly loved and adored one another. From 2000-2014 Brian logged over a million miles as an over the road driver. He had a lifelong love of pigeons and a gift for animal genetics. This ability allowed him to raise such beautiful birds as well as a National Champion Santa Gertrudis bull in 1988. Brian enjoyed travel and geography. He was a protective soul with an adventurous spirit. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert E. 1987 and Margaret 2007. He is survived by his wife Michelle (Hofstrand) Himmelberger, son Shawn/Jennifer Himmelberger, ex-wife Donna Wilcox, stepdaughter Megan Hofstrand, stepson Michael Hofstrand, brother Thomas Himmelberger, sister Connie Tibbets, sister Judy Kasemire. Brian has four grandchildren and three step grandchildren. He lives in our hearts and memories always and forever.
