This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Daryl Schlichenmayer on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd.
Daryl was the father of your classmates, Lynn (Schlichenmayer) Gartland* ('67) and Gary Myers* ('71).
DARYL SCHLICHENMAYER Daryl B. Schlichenmayer, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016. He was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Washburn, N.D., to Jacob and Paulene (Neuharth) Schlichenmayer. Daryl graduated from Washburn High School in 1940, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Dec. 8, 1941. He became a Navy Corpsman (medic) and was attached to the Fourth Marine Division. Daryl was involved in combat on Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima and received a Bronze Star for his valor on Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in October, 1945. He married Martha Schaan of Balta, N.D. Aug. 5, 1946, in Bismarck, N.D. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Merle and Neil; and sister-in-law, Kathy. He is survived by his wife; his children, Lynn Gartland (Tim) of Florence, Colo., and Gary Myers of Las Vegas; grandson, Quinn Myers of Las Vegas; brother, Jerry Schlichenmayer of Lewistown, Mont.; sister-in-law, Marian Meyer of Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were previously held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas. Burial with military honors is pending at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
