This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Lou O'Day on Sunday, Feb. 5th.
Lou was the mother of Kathleen (O'Day) Faruolo ('69), Sheila (O'Day) Boddicker ('73), Mary O'Day* ('76), Joan (O'Day) Waldschmidt ('78), Leo Patrick O'Day, Jr.* ('79) and Kerry O'Day ('83).
Louayne M. O’Day (Lou) died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, while in care near Rapid City, SD. Lou was 88 years old.
Lou was born Louayne Marie Tavis on January 9, 1929, in Mandan, ND, and graduated from High School there in 1946. She then attended St. Theresa’s College in Winona, MN, and graduated in 1950. She married Leo Patrick O’Day (Pat) on November 25, 1950, in Fargo. Lou and Pat had six children and lived in south Fargo for 40 years. She was a strong and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lou cared for all of those she met in her path and was well spoken and optimistic. She loved peo- ple and was committed to making the world a better place.
Some of her endeavors included working as a volunteer with the Opportunity School in Fargo, volunteering with various activities at Nativity Catholic Church, serving as President of the School Board for Shanley High School, and acting as part-owner and operator of Junction Three, a crafts and knick knack store in West Acres during the 1970s and 80s. Lou loved the lake country in and around Detroit Lakes and Pelican Rapids, MN. She lived happily with her family at Lake Pelican for 28 years. Lou was a devout Christian and dedicated her life to her faith.
Lou and Pat moved to Fountain Hills, AZ in 1990 and she remained there until moving to Rapid City, SD in 2011. Her generous and friendly manner, and her caring nature were present with her until her final hours.
She is survived by a son, Leo Patrick O’Day Jr. (Tammy), Fargo; five daughters, Kathleen (Jon) Faruolo, Rochester, MN; Sheila (Marc) Boddicker, Rapid City, SD; Mary O’Day, Edina, MN; Joan (Doug) Waldschmidt, Maple Grove, MN; and Kerry O’Day, Plymouth, MN; two brothers, Fr. Gordon Tavis, Collegeville, MN; and Ron (Marty) Tavis, Fort Myers, FL.; 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, on June 17, 2017, time to be determined.
Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo, date and time to be determined.
