Dear Class of 1960:

This is a Deacon Alert to inform you of the passing of Rodney Harris on Saturday, Feb. 27th.

Rodney was the husband of your classmate Margaret Ellen (Burr) Harris ('60).

Obituary:

Rodney Eugene Harris, a car and fix-it afficianado known to many as a teacher, racer and fan of knowing how all things work, died Saturday in Arizona, his winter home. He was 72.
Born June 8, 1943, Rodney grew up in a few cities, but settled down in Fargo and always considered it home. He married Margaret, his wife of 42 years, and they welcomed daughter Amy, both of whom he adored.
Rod was an industrial education teacher at Fargo South High School for 30 years. He enjoyed repairing cars and working with wood and electronics.
He raced cars for many years at Winnipeg and Brainerd, Minn., was always a fan or racing and, in 1982, opened Performance Auto, a high-performance auto parts store in Fargo. He spent many nights traveling around the region’s race tracks, selling parts and talking about auto racing with drivers and fans. After selling the store, he continued buying and selling cars, an activity for which he was both skillful and enjoyed.
Rodney and Margaret were thoroughly active in their retirement years, enjoying time with friends and appreciating the warmth Arizona provided in winter. No matter where Rodney and Margaret were, they loved visiting their daughter’s family in Ohio and doted on their granddaughters Dakota and Danika.
Rodney died of a heart-attack. He is survived by wife Margaret Ellen (Burr), daughter Amy Marie Schaum (Ben), granddaughters Dakota and Danika, and brother Keith. He was preceded in death by parents Eldon Lewis Harris and Eleanor Irene (McCullagh), and sister Marion “Elaine” Von Pinnon (Phil).
The funeral celebrating Rodney’s life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Church of the Ascension,12615 Fountain Hills Blvd., Fountain Hills, Arizona, 86268.
