Rosa, the youngest of seven children, was born to Wenzel and Anna Distler in Unter-Zetlisch, Czechoslovakia in 1926. She was forced to flee her homeland for Germany after WWII and found the rest of her family in Germany with the help of the Red Cross. As a young girl, she loved hiking and bicycling and was a champion track athlete. She met and married Erwin Fendt in Mindelheim, Germany in 1951. Two sons, Paul and Mark, were born in Fargo.
Rosa and Erwin proudly operated Quality Bakery in the Fargo-Moorhead area, where Rosa assisted with the bookkeeping and running of the business. Rosa’s personal artistry shone through as she handcrafted magnificent marzipan candies and krum kake that were much in demand at the bakery every Christmas season.
Rosa was kind, big hearted, and full of life. She loved dancing, cooking, laughing with friends and family, and playing card games with her family. As a member of Holy Spirit and then Nativity church, she donated her time and talents. Many people still remember the Shanley fundraiser German dinners she donated for years. She was an avid gardener. In later years she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared her curiosity and creativity with those around her.
Rosa is preceded in death by her parents as well as her three brothers (Wenzel, Franz, and Erich) and three sisters (Theresa, Elfriede, and Margaret), all in Germany.
